How to change your life in 2022 ♡

Well hello there friends!

Can you believe we are into the sixth month of 2022 already?! Already! Wow. I think I only just realised that as I wrote it.

I'm not usually one to sit down each month and write fresh goals because that puts too much pressure on myself and it ends up being counter productive. But recently I've been settling down into a few new freelance jobs that I am LOVING, and I am finally starting to re-align and focus on my personal goals.

So I thought now would be a good time to share how I am changing my life for the better, and how you can also change your life in 2022. This is in terms of being more positive, mindful and creating healthy habits that will make life feel more fulfilling and joyful.

Changing or turning around your life is never going to be easy. It is not smooth sailing and every single day we are works in progress. I truly believe that. But here are some steps you can take to start making the shifts you want to improve your situation.

  1. Take yourself more seriously.

This was a big shift I had to make. Sometimes we don't even realise we aren't until you actually reflect on it. I spend a lot of time thinking about whether my friends and family think that what I do is a 'real job' or if they actually 'get' what I'm doing. But recently I've started to ask myself, is it actually just me that doesn't take myself seriously or see my creative outlets as a real job? Because if I don't even take myself seriously then how the heck do I expect anyone else to? I have to believe that what I'm doing is worthy of money and success. Otherwise I have fallen at the first hurdle.

2. Understand what success means to you.

How do you measure success? Is it in the amount of money you make? Is it how many friends you have? Is it how many holidays you have been on this year? Is it how many followers you have? In order to change your life for the better you need to get clear on what success actually means to you. And why. If it's to do with money then why do you feel it is important to make a lot of money? Is it to help your family? To have luxurious items? There is absolutely no judgement here, you do not have to justify your success metrics. Just know what they are, because otherwise you're just shooting into the dark and you'll never truly feel successful and fulfilled.

3. Rely on discipline, not motivation.

You may have heard a lot of talk about motivating yourself to get on with things, and high motivation days, low motivation days and everything in between. One thing I have learnt over the last year or so is that motivation is fleeting. It will never ever last forever. If you want to achieve something- whether its to lose weight, to grow an Instagram account, to buy a house- whatever it is, you have to have discipline. This means making a commitment to yourself every single day to do the thing, no matter what. And once you start disciplining yourself, this leads nicely on to my next point...

4. Make a simple promise to yourself. And keep it every day.

You will build a level of self love and trust that is unshakeable. Simply by making a promise to yourself and keeping it. In any relationship in your life you build trust by keeping promises and secrets between friends. Well you are your own bestest friend on the planet. So the same applies to you. When I made a promise to myself to find exercise that worked for me and that lit a spark in me that was when I started to trust myself again. When I started taking the time to journal every single day I started to learn about myself and uncover truths I had been hiding for a very long time. It changed my life.

5. Be playful. Release your inner child. And let it go.

Okay, my last tip. Arguably the most important one that helped me change my life. I am the sort of person to hold onto emotion for a long time. When I mess up I hold onto the feeling for way way wayyyy too long. It's not healthy. So lately I've been working on just letting it all go. I find dancing it out helps. Even when the last thing I want to do is get up out of bed. I also think to myself will this matter in 5 minutes? 5 months? Or 5 years? When we learn to release the burdens holding us back, that is when we can truly change our life.

I hope you found something useful in here. Just know that you are absolutely capable of changing your story, after all you are the author of your own life. You are the main character.

Lots of love,

Vicki
